Healing after a breakup can take considerable time to do. Many times a relationship breakup can be just as traumatic as a family member dying. In a sense the breakup is like a death of a relationship, but in this case you have the chance to revive it.
Figure it can take a month for you to get over the stress and emotional aspect of your breakup. Not only are you going through this but your ex is also. It does not matter if you dumped them or they dumped you, the same painful feelings can be felt by both of you.
Do not expect to make contact with your ex and try to get them to come back to you, that is if they left you. Now is not a good time to try and work it out because the chances of an argument starting a very real. This may very well ruin any chances you may have had. Wait at least a few weeks before you get in touch with them.
Take this time to get fully recovered, then you can lay out a plan of attack if you wish to get your ex back. If you can get them back you will have to start your relationship over again and learn to gain each others trust again.
While you are getting past your breakup, get out and enjoy yourself. Do not sit home feeling sorry for yourself, this will just prolong the healing process. Take advantage of your family and friends to help get you through this and get your life started again.
